Basic Privacy Settings

Introduction

Screenshot of FacebookYou'll need to decide how much you want to share on Facebook. If you just keep up with family and friends, you might prefer to share updates only with that close circle of people. On the other hand, if you use Facebook for professional networking, you'll probably want to make your information more public. However you use Facebook, it's important to choose the privacy settings that will work best for you.

In this lesson, you’ll learn to control how people connect with you on Facebook and how to use the audience selector. We'll also talk about  how to manage tagging and set privacy restrictions for apps and games.

Adjusting Your Privacy Controls

Facebook offers two main ways to control your privacy. You can apply privacy settings that set general rules about who can contact you and view your information, and you can control who sees every individual post you make.
Watch the video to learn how to set your privacy on Facebook.

Using Facebook's Privacy Settings

It's easy to set general privacy settings for your account. You can find these settings on the Privacy Settings and Tools page. As you continue through this lesson, we will explain each section in detail and recommend the best choices to help optimize your privacy.
Keep in mind that the recommendations we make throughout this tutorial are geared toward a high level of privacy. If you're less concerned about privacy, then you may choose to make your information more visible.
