Using Lists To Customize Privacy

There are certain things you might be willing to share with some of your Friends, but not others. Perhaps you'd prefer that your mother not see some of the photos from your last vacation. Or maybe you'd like to connect with Friends from your job, but are concerned about mixing your professional life with your social life.

You can easily control who you share with by grouping your Friends into Lists. Facebook also automatically creates Smart Lists based on information you and your Friends have provided, like your location, education history, and more. You can create additional Lists that contain the people you choose.

Once you've created a List, you can choose to share certain things with only the people in that List. You can also share with everyone except the people in a List.

Lists aren't just for controlling your privacy. You can also click on a List to see a customized News Feed that only contains updates from the people in that List.

  1. From the Facebook homepage, locate the Friends in the Navigation pane, then hover your mouse over it and click More. If the Friends group isn't visible, follow this link to navigate directly to the Lists page. (After visiting this page, the Friends group should appear in the Navigation pane.)
